Free museums in Paris: November 2026 dates & booking checks
Plan around one museum, then take a short city walk. This small calendar covers the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and Petit Palais, with eligibility and reservation limits made explicit.

November at a glance
Free admission and a free reservation are different things. Keep the required booking confirmation and any proof of eligibility. This calendar is for individual visits; group rules can differ.
| Museum / November date | Who and what | Reservation / exceptions |
|---|---|---|
| Musée d’Orsay · Sunday 1 November | First Sunday: free for all visitors under the published rule. | A timed reservation is mandatory. The official listing names 1 November; remaining slots are not verified. |
| Louvre · Friday 6 November, after 18:00 | First Friday evening: free for all; the monthly rule excludes July and August. | Booking mandatory. Louvre says slots appear a few days before the visit; no exact release hour is promised. |
| Petit Palais · regular opening days | Permanent collections are free for everyone without reservation. | Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00; last collection entry 17:15. Closed Mondays and 11 November. Temporary exhibitions are separate and paid. |
Louvre: choose the free evening deliberately
The museum’s free-admission guidance was updated on 2 December 2025 and rechecked for this edition. It requires booking for the free first-Friday evening and says slots are posted only a few days ahead. Do not interpret a missing November slot as either a confirmed sell-out or a promise of later availability.
Other free-entry categories require valid proof. Follow the museum’s full eligibility conditions rather than assuming every visitor under 26 qualifies. Build your walk around the time actually printed on your reservation.
Orsay: a free Sunday still needs a slot
Orsay’s admission rules make the first Sunday free for all with a mandatory timed reservation. Its published categories also include under-18s and qualifying 18–25-year-olds from the EU/EEA; consult the full list for residency and other eligibility conditions.
The official booking listing checked on 15 October names Sunday 1 November 2026 and requires a free timed reservation. It covers the collections and exhibitions available that day; it excludes group visits of seven or more on Sundays. Remaining slots were not checked. Follow the first-Sunday booking link and confirm a time that suits you.
Petit Palais: the flexible alternative
The permanent collection does not require a free-day booking. That makes it a useful alternative if the timed museums do not fit your trip. The museum closes on Mondays and on 11 November; Friday and Saturday exhibition late openings do not extend permanent-collection hours.
Paid temporary exhibitions and activities have their own booking arrangements. Confirm the exact collection or exhibition you want before you join a queue.
Add a nearby walk, not a museum marathon
For the Louvre, leave time to explore the exterior courtyards before your slot. For Orsay, take a short riverside look after your visit. At Petit Palais, look at the neighboring Grand Palais exterior and continue toward Pont Alexandre III if conditions suit you.
These are independent stop suggestions, not a verified continuous or accessible route. Reserve 30–45 minutes as a flexible editorial budget, check signs and crossings locally, and choose one museum per outing. Use the Paris guide to pick your next neighborhood.
