Where to start, finish and shorten the walk

Begin at the José I statue in Praça do Comércio, facing the Rua Augusta Arch. The full route goes west to City Hall in Praça do Município, returns to the arch, then follows Rua Augusta north to Rossio. It finishes at Rossio rather than looping back to the river.

For a shorter version, skip the City Hall detour and go directly from Praça do Comércio through the arch and along Rua Augusta to Rossio. Allow roughly 30–45 minutes with brief stops. This is an editorial time budget; the 1.214 km figure and GPX describe the full four-stop route only.

Save the map before leaving Wi-Fi. Use marked crossings at the square edges and intersecting streets; the route map does not guarantee a clear crossing, level paving or step-free access. If Rossio is crowded or restricted, finish before the square and follow current signs.

Before you set off

The 1.214 km distance comes from the pedestrian route geometry. The 45–75 minute allowance includes looking around and pauses; it is an editorial estimate, not a timed walk. The route begins at 38.7077° N, 9.1365° W and ends at 38.7138° N, 9.1395° W.

Expect stone paving, street crossings and shared pedestrian spaces. Crossing signals, temporary works, curbs and step-free access have not been verified on site. Use marked crossings, follow current signs and check the route against your own mobility needs. The arch rooftop is optional and outside the mapped walk.
