OCTOBER FIELD NOTES · REVIEWED 15 OCTOBER 2026
October suits a flexible walking day. In the older IPMA 1981–2010 baseline used below, Lisbon averages a 22.5°C daily high, a 15.1°C low and 97.7 mm of rain. The 8.6 wet days are a monthly average, not a prediction for your trip. Pack a rain layer and shoes with grip.
Set aside 60–90 minutes as an editorial time budget for the existing Baixa squares walk: Praça do Comércio → Praça do Município → Rua Augusta Arch at street level → Rossio. Leave the uphill neighborhoods for another outing.
Shorten the outdoor stretch, take a café break, or listen to a saved chapter in the city guide while online. Wet paving needs care. The arch viewpoint is an optional ticketed visit; this walk does not depend on entering it.
Use the exact-date calculator below and finish the outdoor section before its estimated sunset. The local clock changes during autumn, so compare your actual dates instead of reusing an early-October sunset time.
Open the route notes before setting out: the 1.214 km geometry was desk-reviewed in September 2026, not walked on site. Closures, crossings and step-free access need a local check. No October event, attraction opening time or closure clearance is assumed here.
October climate figures rechecked 15 October 2026. Daylight is calculated, not observed; the older climate period and route-review limits remain unchanged.
October pairs gentler average temperatures with more rain than September. Keep your walk flexible and save a dry spell for the riverfront.
